What Does it Take To Be An Entrepreneur?
Have you ever thought about starting your own business and being your own boss? How about doing something you’re actually passionate about for the rest of your career life? But what does it take to be an entrepreneur?
You have seen many people online stating they are an “Entrepreneur” and you must be wondering “What the hell is an Entrepreneur and what does it take to be an Entrepreneur?”
According to Google, an Entrepreneur is a person who sets up a business or businesses, taking on financial risks in the hope of profit.
Maybe you have a daytime job, which you hate, starting to hate or you may even love what you do workwise. But the thoughts about being an entrepreneur come to your mind now and then…
Now being an entrepreneur is no easy ride. There are no successes overnight. You will need to be very disciplined. You will need to back to school. Not like a real school. But you will need to put some time and investment into self-education.
Do You Have A Passion?
Maybe you have a real passion or interest which you would like to turn into a business. Is this possible, of course it is. There are many people here in the UK and Worldwide who have made a fortune with their passion. They kept things simple and simply did what they loved and enjoyed.
They made their passion into a thriving business.
But you know the one thing that stops people from following their passion…?
FEAR
That’s right, this four-letter word is very dangerous. It will make you or break you.
Here are 4 signs of fear in the entrepreneur’s world:
1. You feel you are not ready
You may feel like, this is the wrong time, I am not ready yet. I will wait until I have all the information I need to start.
2. You will be judged
Who gives a toss about what people think of you or what you are doing? Face facts, not everyone will like nor will show support for what you are going. WHO GIVES A CRAP!!!
3. Not enough knowledge
You will put it off because you do not have knowledge, just start and learn along the way. At least you will be learning and moving your business passion forward at the same time.
4. You might fail
So you think you might fail and people will laugh, and what? Remember why you started in the first place.
Write down your reason “why” you want to be an entrepreneur, and make your reason so strong, that if and when you fail, you have an attitude of, I have learned a lesson here, I know what doesn’t work, and move on.
What is it Like To Be An Entrepreneur?
Are you willing to work 14 – 16 hours a day, 6 days a week? Maybe working 7 days a week?
You see real entrepreneurs work between 14 – 16 hours a day 6 days a week so they don’t have to work 9 – 5.
Now an entrepreneur does not mean a “laptop business lifestyle”
Here are some entrepreneur’s businesses:
- Offline shop (newsagent, off-license)
- Hardware shop
- Greengrocery shop
- Car parts shop
- Barbers
- Phone repair shop
- Laptop repair shop
- Estate agents
- eBay seller
- Etsy seller
- Amazon Seller
- Network Marketing
- Affiliate Marketing
- Dropshipping
And the list can go on… You see what I am trying to say.
If you do have a day job, here are some possibilities for you to run your business from home:
- Weekday evenings
- Weekends
- Weekday evenings and weekends
- On your days off, if you work on a rota system.
Remember, if you are willing to work 40 hours a week, then investing only 2 hours a day in your self-education is nothing!

Excellent article Chigs. I’m just learning to be an entrepreneur
Thanks Anne. Keep learning, I am always learning too 🙂
Some very interesting points Chigs. People dream of the laptop lifestyle but few understand the work involved to get there! Procrastination can be a major problem, we know it needs doing but…
Really enjoyed meeting you over the weekend, looking forward to following your adventure.
Hey Peter, many thanks for reading my blog. Focus and hard work that’s all it takes. Was a pleasure meeting you too.
love this chigs! Being an entrepreneur takes commitment drive and a don’t give up attitude. If you can take the challenges, its a very rewarding way to live!
Hey Vic, many thanks for reading my blog.
We have to have the “don’t give up attitude” in order to succeed.
